Interesting even to the laymen as an overview of how emergencies are handled and what techniques are used and why. Even if you don't have time to take the class you can still read the book- whether it's for research- concern over your own health or just to add to your enjoyment of pop culture so you can see all the silly flaws on tv medical shows. And as we all know when it comes to your personal health and safety you can never be too knowledgeable.

Previous edition provided better diagrams. However, this is the current version taught by the City of Alexandria VA Fire Department. This version emphasizes critical thinking scenarios. I would do the reading and assigned homework (not from the workbook) for class, and then use the workbook as a pre-exam before our weekly tests. It asks the material in different ways which allows you to reinforce concepts and terms you're reading about. The practice "interim exams" were also very good for review, and I plan on using them again before our final. If you're the type of student that could benefit from having additional and study aids, then you should get this workbook.Just a note: It is rumored that the DOT will be changing some requirements over the summer and this book (and the text) may be replaced by a newer edition (12E).

While the book is very informative, the organization seems haphazard. An important distinction to make is haphazard does not mean incomplete, it means that searching for information about a subject when the key terms are not intuitive is very hard. For example, terms and concepts related to perfusion is dispersed throughout the book in separate topics, each one only giving a piece of the puzzle of what perfusion is, details, and how it goes wrong. So understanding perfusion by looking at a particular section is not possible. All in all this is a good book because of the diagrams and congenial language.

Clearly the standard in emergency medical courses where the passing of the NREMT-B/I/P exam in the goal. I've taken several EMT courses since 2002, and each has used an iteration of this book and the associated workbook as the core reference material.

Book is extremely disorganized and too wordy. Also just have paragraphs of people giving their opinions and stories, which doesn't really help when it comes to scenarios. Also this edition is already outdated and is no longer will be used in classes.

Bought this to read on my own after my EMT certification course was canceled. I am now on page 900 out of 1,200 pages. Love it, but I am really looking forward to another course offering so I can practice with the devices. This was also a great price, and the seller included the Workbook as a free surprise!

Great book, it was required for school, but it's a great tool with super helpful practice exams; the practice exams alone got my the 90% in the class. Also, for the main book, the hardback is worth the extra $10. By the end of class, everyone's book looked VERY used. My book looks brand new. To me, that's a huge plus. If you take pride in keeping your things looking nice, the hardback is worth the extra $$GOOD LUCK IN EMT CLASS!!
