A copy was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.What a great story for children, as father Peter and son Eli with their dog Kara, travel to the Amazon in Peru, to find a dragon, the dwarf dragon.Going by plane and boat and finally arriving there, Eli was very excited. He was expecting a lot, but was not prepared for the thick and humid air and the bussing of the insects around them. He even things that the amazon river is a brown animal itself, flowing through the jungle.Coming finally to the outpost and seeing already a huge morpho butterfly, after an hours walk through the jungle, they arrive there and finding some friends of his dad there.Next morning they go on another hike, to go deeper into the jungle to find what they were looking for. They came across a agouti that looks like a mouse without an tail. And they find it, the dwarf dragon. Peter is doing all the filming and Eli is writing all down and made drawings of the animals.And then, after seeing an peccary, a wild pig, Eli really get scared. But, you have to find out what that might be.A wonderful book for children, with the great drawings of the different animals.Well done, Anna.

This is an educational adventure story for young readers, ages 8 and older. Ten-year old Eli Moore is an adventurer and takes the reader along on his trip to Peru. He travels with his dad and also his dog, Kara. They trek through the rain forest, come across rare animals, and take a ride down the Amazon River. The author has written a very compelling, joyful story which moves right along. There are many twists; it is thought provoking and the story-line is great. I'll be looking forward to Eli's next adventure since I've always been an adventurer since I was a kid. Thus, grandmas will like this wonderful story, too!

Ten year old Eli Moore describes his experiences on his trip to the Amazon with his dad and their dog, Kara.His realistic descriptions use all the senses--sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell. He tells about interesting Amazon animals, an old legend, and how he feels about them. Eli is a good role model. He is curious, brave some of the time, attentive to his father, and respectful of animals and plant life. He keeps a field journal, in which he makes beautiful drawings.The story flows well, and is easy to read. It is good as a read-aloud, as well as a good read for reluctant readers. The book could be the perfect introduction to a rainforest unit taught in school. The ending leaves the reader hanging, but could be used for lively discussion and/or a story starter.I highly recommend this book for children to read, and parents to read aloud to their children. For teachers, it is a wonderful resource for teaching science, social studies, art, writing and reading--for truly integrated learning.I can hardly wait to see where Eli goes next!

This book was ok but my 7 year-old really enjoyed it. My kids (3, 5, 7) love stories about animals. At first they weren't at all interested and I had a hard time getting through the beginning with them but once Eli made it to the Amazon they were more interested. I appreciate all the new information we learned through the book. They knew about the Amazon river but it was fun to read about (and then look up videos about) the animals Eli encountered in the book. I would've rated it 3-stars if my son hadn't enjoyed the later parts for two reasons. 1) There are a few disparaging remarks about certain characters in the book (calling them old, crazy, etc.). That's just not necessary. 2) I didn't think it was very appropriate when a native is telling the explorers about a Peruvian legend and the dad (a scientist and leader of the trip) gestures that what he is saying is crazy. Again, just not necessary and inappropriate. The book ended after Eli and his dad explored the Amazon for two days and that's sort of what it felt like. They found the elusive dragon lizard their first day they looked for it and the book only mentioned 4 other animals (which was extremely interesting and I wish there would've been more of this). Overall I thought the book fell short.I received a book from the author for review.

Every young boys wants to go explore the Amazon jungle, and young Eli Moore gets the chance. Eli and his father head to the jungle to find the dwarf dragons? Will he find them? You will have to read it to find out. Along the way he finds beautiful and scary creatures. Eli, his dad, and their dog Kara, a uniquely colored German Shepard they head out into the jungle. Along the way they meet some locals, one man tells the story of El Tunchi. You will have to find out who or what El Tunchi is yourself. A great read!I read this with my 6-year-old daughter, she loves all creatures, especially bugs, she liked to hear about all the bugs Eli was able to come in contact with. I am starting my student teaching soon, and I think this would be great book to use in the classroom. It would work well in any unit that covers geography (Peru) or any number of jungle creatures for science. I highly recommend this book. I cannot wait for the sequel, where will Eli be??I was provided a copy of this book for free in order to review it.

It's easy to understand why the FLDS has been referred to as the American Taliban. Carolyn's book was excellent, although really painful to read, as she details of the extreme abuse and misery that women, children (& animals) suffer in this cult. It is very difficult to wrap your mind around the fact that this group continues to exist TODAY in the US. Unfortunate people born into the life are totally brain washed and cut off from reality. Otherwise, they would never accept their miserable lives! The FLDS went from bad to worse, when Jeffs became their "profit." He has to be one of the most evil people to ever walk the earth! Through his carefully chosen leadership, he continues to control every aspect of the member's lives (even from prison.) The male leadership of this cult are egomaniacal and devoid of decency. They seem only focused on gaining/keeping their power and impregnating as many women as possible (supported by the US tax payer) in an quest to become Gods in the afterlife. Until death, they rein like kings, having their pick of women and underage girls, well into their old age. Marriages are arranged and unless one is powerful enough, couples have no say in who they marry. What a sad world for the majority. No rights, no love, no grace and no hope! God bless Carolyn for having the guts to escape with her children. I wish her many years of happiness in life.

Excellent book - read through it quickly and could not put it down. Towards the very end it was a bit confusing and jumbled (my edition had a writer's "update" attached to it). Since then, I have read "Stolen Innocence" and started on "The Witness Wore Red" but still prefer "Escape" (I do have the sequel "Triumph" on order). Carolyn Jessop was able to flee the FDLS and successfully fight for custody of her 8 children - including 1 profoundly disabled one while navigating life outside the cult. Unlike the majority of FDLS women, she was able to go to college (which she had to fight for) while being in an arranged marriage with a man 32 years older than her in a place where women are expected to be subordinate to the men's desires and wishes and that of the FDLS church. These women are systematically denied medical treatment for pregnancy, labor, mental illness, genetic conditions, and basically anything else - but Jessop she was able to fight in her own way by defying and outsmarting the priesthood in order to get her disabled son the help he needed while she was in the FDLS. The girls and women are never taught that there is anything besides the FDLS that would give them rights, privileges or a voice, or that any abuse (physically or emotional) against them is wrong. Jessop took a risk when she escaped with 8 children in tow that there was a better life - with only $20 in her pocket, she didn't when or how she was going to get help, but she made it and it's a great story.

Riveting and infuriating at the same time. I couldn't put the book down, as it was well written in a logical sequence with attention-grabbing scenes throughout. At the same time, I was angry and sad during much of the read due to the descriptions of horrendous abuse that is inflicted upon the FLDS members, especially the least powerful ones. Not only is the abuse of the children enough to make me want to cry, but the psychological pain and humiliation inflicted on the less favored women is infuriating. It seems like the whole system is set up to demoralize them as much as possible, causing them to mistreat one another as they jockey for favored positions. This inhumane treatment of children and women, as well as some of the adolescent "lost" boys is highly encouraged by leadership. It is obvious from the title that the co-author gets out, eventually, so no spoiler alerts here. I am glad that she was able to escape from that hellish environment and get her kids out as well. When you read the book, you will find out how truly brave she was for even attempting to get them all out. My emotional roller coaster while reading the book is proof enough of excellent writing.

Unbelievable read. Jessop was able to place readers directly into her former life within the FLDS and allow us to feel every bit of abuse perpetrated upon her, her children, her stepchildren, and her sister wives. The level of misogyny within the cult was staggering and only became worse as Warren Jeffs took hold, and Jessop describes it in great detail. She stands apart from what we see as the typical FDLS wife in that she was allowed to get a college education and was able to hold down multiple jobs during her tenure with the cult. The fact that she had some contact with the outside world probably led to her eventual escape.I feel deeply for all of the women and children who did not manage to get out and realize that they actually had rights and didn't have to follow the prophet blindly. Jeffs and his minions invoke God to explain away rampant physical and sexual abuse, denial of education, denial of medical intervention, exile of young boys, and marital reassignments.

I already knew some things about the FLDS cult and Warren Jeff's actions, but I learned so much more from this book . I had trouble putting it down to get something else done. Carolyn writing style keeps you involved, entertained, and amazed at how she kept going in such a vile culture. I see why it is next to impossible for most women to escape alone, let alone with their children. And since she grew up in this culture she (like the other women and children) knew no other way existed and accepted her lot in life, only gradually realizing the outside world was not all poised to destroy her and her children as they are taught. I don't think I would have been so strong. And I am very sad that Warren Jeffs still seems to have so much control over his "people" even from prison and that many children were eventually forced to return to their "parents" after the compound was raided.

The videos are all out on You Tube, so it's a wonderful study that you & your friends can manage for not very much money but a whole lot of spiritual benefit if you're willing to do the homework and let God do His work in your heart.

I bought this for a home bible study not knowing anything about what I was about to get into. I am one of those people that have a difficult time understanding the bible and what it means to me. This book was great at explaining and helping understand how if affects me today. I admit that this was an emotional study. I cried and had a lot of eye opening moments. I will be keeping this for years so that I can go back and redo when I need it.

This book, along with the group of women in my bible study have revolutionized my walk with Christ. I have been a Christian my whole life pretty much. I grew up in the church. But I was aware that something was missing. People say you should be able to "tell" somehow when someone's a Christian and I had no idea what they were talking about. And, more importantly (at least from a selfish perspective), I didn't have the peace and joy promised by God. Where was it? I desired a close relationship with God, I always have. But I found that there was some invisible barrier. This book helped me identify that barrier: I was unwilling to submit my life completely to a God I didn't now enough about to trust. This book (among others I'm reading) really helped show God's love, even through life's traumas and challenges. And it gave me a place to start changing my view and learn more. I'll admit I haven't read much of the bible. At least not before the study. I didn't feel connected to it. And as this study forced me to read more and more and connected different pieces together, I found that I actually enjoyed reading the bible more and got more out of it. I don't think you can take anything you read out of the context of your life during that and the additional ways that God speaks to you beyond the book. But if you ask him, you'll find all the healing and understanding you've been looking for. It just might take some time. This has been a huge leap forward for me in my walk and has helped me begin the process of healing from past wounds and breaking through the bonds that bind me.Update: 4/12/16It's admittedly taken me longer than the traditional ten weeks to make it through this book with my bible study group, but I can honestly say that I've stepped out the other side a different person. God has really shaped my life through this book and other sources. And it's really interesting to go back to pages where certain things like actually trusting God, even a little it, seemed completely impossible and then look at where I am now. There just seemed like so much gap between what I was learning needed to be and where I was that I thought I could never bridge it. I guess it's a good thing that I wasn't taking this journey alone. And you aren't either. He'll be right by your side. Every step of the way.

Outstanding in every way. I can not recommend this workbook highly enough and think that every woman that really wants to experience some amount of freedom in her life will benefit from this book.I bought this myself, for myself!

I am just finishing up the first chapter but I am really enjoying this book. Beth Moore is a great teacher of the bible, she uses a lot of scripture which I am really enjoying learning more of the old testament, love the way she pulls it all together and really makes me think. These next six weeks I believe will really help me to grow in my relationship with Christ. I am looking forward to breaking free from some things that have kept me bound.

There's just enough insider information here that actors will enjoy the read, but it's also a very much relatable story for non-actors about a job that is essential, but rarely has the common gaze cast upon it.

All lovers of the theatre relish good theatrical anecdotes, and this account of the world tour with Ian McKellan (playing Lear) is by turns funny and revealing. A must for all theatre-goers.

A great insight into the theatre world and it's hierarchy and the way in which some succeed or have success while others wait in the wings so to speak. For no apparent reason than luck many have talent but few get much applause. Break a leg all those brave enough to try and keep trying.
