This book is life changing! At one point in the book, I just got it. I saw. I observed. I was the observer. I was aware of who I was then and there. I will be reading and re reading. I first borrowed the book from the library, but then I had to buy my own so that I could underline and make notes.

I felt quite bored when reading the first several pages of this book. Then the author began talking about the ego, page after page after page. This book talked about the ego, my ego, in more ways than I had previously ever imagined, confronting and exposing my precious ego. On at least a couple of occasions, I threw the book across the room into the wall. Then I became aware that this was exactly what I needed. I have never before read a book describing the human ego with such logical description. His work on the "pain body" is some of the most valuable work on understanding human relationship behavior that I have ever read. I strongly recommend this book for anyone that is willing to take another step in becoming honest with one's self.

This book is changing my life and I'm only a 1/3 of the way into it. I saw Mr. Tolle interviewed by Oprah on Super Soul Sunday and was amazed at his descriptions about life. The idea that we are not anything of form - thoughts, likes/dislikes, cumulative experiences, gender, nationality, religion, and on and on....mind boggling. Tolle says that we are the part of us that realizes we are thinking. Anything else is ego. Tolle says that at the heart of all ancient religions is that the mind is insane and if we want to find peace, we must realize who we really are and drop any pretense of ego. Ego is just an illusion. My life is already better, just from learning that little bit.The book takes time to read, because, you have to contemplate what you read, highlight it and read it again. I imagine reading this book or at least parts of it, over and over again. Enjoy.

I read this after "The Power of Now" and I have to say I was a bit disappointed. For one, Tolle repeats most of what you'll find in the "Power of Now" in this book with little new insight. The Socratic way of question and answer sets a very all-knowing form. In "The Power of Now", it seems he's more of a guide or a teacher but after reading this book he seems like some sort of arrogant all-knowing God. If you have to decide between the two, read the "Power of Now".

Eckhart Tolle doesn't need any help to sell this book. But still i am writing this review because this is truly such a great book.Maybe regretfully- the book's title doesn't convey how transformational a tool it can be for the individual person... It doesn't only talk about creating a new conscious society, but it mostly is a useful and eye opening book about waking up individually.I wonder if it is at all possible to digest this book even with several reads... maybe even in one single lifetime...I first read it more than 10 years ago, maybe even more, when i was deep into Eckhart and his teaching.Then i moved on to other spiritual inspirations.. and felt that frankly, it's strange, but i don't want to go near Eckhart at all again, as his teaching just makes me "frustrated".... What can i say- it wasn't correct for me to listen to him for a while.Now, i happened to return to his sphere of influence, and picking up this book again, i realize how deep, accurate and brilliant it is.Yes. It may not be easy implementing what Eckhart talks about.But if you are someone that feels strongly about spirituality, and even about liberation from suffering, this book has a dignified place in your library... even if you'll have to read it again and again over the course of many years, to realize it's transformational power.Eckhart knows what he is talking about.

To be honest, I hated this book the whole time I was reading it and immediately after. I thought it was poorly written, repetitive, preachy, and idealistic. But lo and behold, 6 months later I am still thinking about it all the time. Like it says in the intro, you are either ready for this book or you're not. If you're ready, it will open your eyes in a way that is impossible to reverse. Try to read it with an open mind and a willingness to deeply examine your own mind in ways that may be very uncomfortable to you. It will be worth it.

The enormous, positive impact this book has had on me is unbelievable. I feel like a new person with all the information packed into this book. I am now rereading to ensure i grasp everything this gem has to offer and i honestly feel like i would've be rereading for years to come. I have made so many notes and highlights and reading them everyday fills me with such joy and peace. This is a process and at time the information would be so profound that you need a moment or the rest of the day to focus and really let whatever information (and there is an abundance) that sticks out to YOU sink in and process! This book will change the way you look at life... GUARANTEED!!

Life changing. Appreciate author's research and use of many teachers. Author has an interesting interpretation of some scripture, but stays true to most and it is applied well to support points made. Certainly provides common sense ways to eliminate stress in your life. Very relaxing to listen to. We set the timer on Kindle, and listen to excerpts before bedtime. Soothing, comforting, provocative, enlightening and also helps us sleep! Also listen to it when driving, helps with stress. Definitely, recommend for people who obsess, are quick to anger, or mentally can't 'let things go'.

Among the people that have written about Hunter (and among these, the books by Jann Wenner and Jay Cowan are the best of the pile) this book stands out above all by its honesty. Juan Thompson never seems to embellish or exaggerate simply for the sake of writing something startling or outrageous. Yet it's all there - the Hunter that fans came to know over the decades: The craziness, the rage, the destruction, the turmoil and the daily diet of hard drugs and alcohol that characterized Hunter Thompson. And this story is told from the point of view of a child, who unlike the adults in the mix could not simply up and leave when Hunter's often near-insane behavior stopped being fun and started to be frightening and traumatic. That said, this is a poignant, slightly sad and sometimes a bit painful story. And at almost 300 pages, the book tells the story about as completely as you'd want it to. There plenty of material to describe what life was like growing up the son of the most outrageous figure in twentieth century literature, the self-appointed "King of Gonzo journalism".

Just what you would imagine about Thompson. You like his writings? you probably would not like him...he had a dysfunctional personality and didn't identify with others. I read everything he has in print and keep it in my library but I don't think I would allow him in my home.

Juan Thompson possesses an integrity, openness, and thoughtfulness that enabled him to write an authentic memoir that reveals crucial insights about his remarkable father. The book is rich with personal letters the two exchanged, Juan’s keen memories, and family photos. He is revealing even when the truth doesn’t portray him or others in the best light. This is a touching memoir of a father and son who grew apart for a time but became close in the last decade of Hunter’s life. It was Juan who was summoned on the final weekend and who was there when Hunter died. I didn't know much about Hunter S. Thompson before this book, except that he was a drug crazed gun toting nut. His son does a great job of describing his father and what it was like to grow up with a narcissistic alcoholic. I gave this book 5 stars because I literally couldn't put it down. I'm amazed that his son could be so forgiving, I doubt that I could. I recommend this book to anyone who has a difficult relationship with their father, because your father can't be worse than this guy.

When you run out of HST’s own books to read, you read what others have written about him. Who better to write a book about the legend than his own son? I should rephrase that: Who better to write a book about himself than Hunter S. Thompson’s son?It was sentimental, yet didn’t hold back from the gritty details of being a child growing up with Hunter S. Thompson as a “caregiver.”Juan Thompson’s memoir shows the sides of HST many of his most adoring fans have trouble gripping—notably his days as a crippled old man. Other HST biographies notice this as well, but being told by the man who becomes Hunter’s caregiver gives a whole new insight.In my 20s I devoured anything Hunter S. Thompson. Ten years later: it’s nice to get a little fix.

This would make a great Fathers Day gift. You will really enjoy this book even if you are not a fan of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. What a great son-father story. I only wish there was more about the month Juan spent on a boat with Jimmy Buffett and the time Dr. Thompson spent living in Buffett's apartment in Key West. Nonetheless this is a book to treasure.

Of course I picked up this book because I have been a lifelong fan of HST. I was a child reading his pieces in Rolling Stones, learning that writing had a style and you could make it your style if you chose to. I never had visions that growing up as HST's child would be an easy venture, but I did believe it would be a massive perk in growing up. Juan Thompson has made an eloquent hats off to a dad who was not perfect yet a father who loved in a manner that only he could muster. He manages to tell some stories which are not particularly favorable of such a complicated man while still respecting what his dad did right. It does often does take a child of your own to look past the surface of our parents and pull out a positive spin on our experiences. Juan does that and his love for his father is never doubted. I definitely recommend this book even if you are unaware of HST's legacy. It's a great story of unconditional love and accepting a parent who, while full of flaws, was also full of adventure. I also enjoyed the personal photos not seen all over the internet.

I really wanted to like this book because I grew up in the Cary area many years ago and I had heard about the case but...It was an unusual book. The author did a really good job telling the story but in the book's own words, it was "painfully redundant." I have never read another book that told the same information over and over and over again like this one did...exactly the same information! For example, something happened and it was told once, then it was told to the police, then it was told to the family, then it was told to a reporter, then it was told in a deposition, then it was told in court, etc. It was really strange! The story itself was sad but interesting with a surprise ending. It was just an "okay" book, not great.

The best true crime writers need to sift through tons of court records, news stories, etc., and gather fresh material through interviews. Then they develop a compelling narrative and offer useful perspective. Amanda Lamb does none of these. She is bogged down in endless pages recounting court hearings and one-sided family views. She refuses to explore details of the infidelities of the parties. She acknowledges that the story took place in her community so perhaps she is too close to it, is too timid, or is just not a good nonfiction writer. This interesting crime deserved better telling and analysis.

If you like repetition you will love this book. I had to skip to the end, and even then I didn't care what happened. The beginning was interesting and then it became boring. A good book if you can't sleep. Did the author think anyone would care about all that family stuff? She should read some Ann Rule.

Repeated the same information over and over. I found myself getting bored because I already had read the facts.

This book was torture to read. I forced myself to finish it, to find out what happened, hoping it would get better. It never did and I would NEVER recommend this book.

Could have been an interesting subject; unfortunately, the writer needed a stronger editor. The facts of the story were related over and over. Not sure why the author felt repetition was necessary, but that made the book difficult to get through.

Amanda Lamb does an excellent job of laying out this harrowing tale of a marriage gone wrong. Filed with all the facts and details of the case, this true crime story doesn't disappoint.

I really enjoyed this book. A quick read and great for awareness of domestic violence. I liked it so much I gave a copy to my friend as so many things in the book are happening in her life right now.

About the Author

Michael and Debi Pearl have been married since 1971. They have 5 children and 21 grandchildren. Between them they have authored 14 books and 8 booklets which combined have sold millions. Much of what they write deals with marriage, child training, and homeschooling. One of their recent books, Good and Evil (Bible stories in Marvel comic format), has been published into 40 languages with another 60 translations soon to be ready for press. The Pearl’s also publish a 40 page bi-monthly magazine with a subscription of over 50,000. Needless to say they are prolific writers and public speakers. On another note, Michael is an inductee into the International Knife Throwers Hall of Fame and holds several world titles, including Gold Cup winner of 2008-9, long distance thrower of the year with a record all time high of hitting a four inch target at 63 feet, and he is the undisputed best tomahawk thrower of 2009, holding the world title. When he is not teaching the Bible or speaking to audiences on how to have a good marriage and obedient children he is teaching kids how to stick a bull’s eye with a knife or hawk. I got this for my 7yr old grandson because he has an interest in the Bible and I thought a comic book would further his interest. I'm so glad that I read it before I gave it to him...it has great content but he may be a little too young for some of the adult content. This would be ideal for the teens and tweens! Great illustrations and dialogue! Relevant for the present time too.

I wanted a Bible story book to keep my kids in bed while I did my devotions.....this did the trick! My kids are learning to have devotions with this book and Im getting mine done without interuptions! I like that the stories are exactly as the Bible describes. Caution! It doesnt sugar coat any of the Bible stories....my daughter came to me later and said "Did you know Peter was crucified upside down?" We love this book and the kids even ask daddy to read it to them at night.

If you're looking for a supplement to reading the gospel for a younger reader (I would recommend this for ages 8 and older) this should be a good gift. Price is reasonable and considering what you get for your purchase this is almost a steal in my opinion. I have not been disappointed!

The Pearls did a wonderful job on this book. We bought the original black & white version and our children read it many times before it finally fell apart. Since the black & white is no longer available, I purchased the color version. It has the same content that we love. It tells the chronological account of creation to the end times. We all enjoy reading it! My first choice is still the black & white.

Excellent graphic novel. I already owned a copy of it, but ordered this one for a friend who is interested in getting started in reading the Bible, but wants to graphics to help him get a better grasp of it through visual applications. A great help to someone who hates reading to get a better understanding of the Bible on their first experience of it.
